Some of the subjects: childbirth and pregnancy in the 17th and 18th century, 400 years of prostitution n Amsterdam, the hunger winter and liberation, city animals, sailors tattoos, Amsterdam songs, Kienholz’ The Hoerengracht, Amsterdam city scapes and the love-hate relation between Amsterdam and the House of Orange and neighbourhoods shops.

I studied history at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, where I co-founded the women’s history group. After graduating in 1983 I worked for the Dutch women’s history organization, as a television producer for IKON and VPRO and as a freelance exhibition maker for amongst others the Amsterdam Resistance Museum and the Amsterdam Historical Museum. For the Dutch Anti Apartheid Movement and the African National Congress I organized a women’s conference.

I have been involved in several participatory projects, co-creating exhibitions and websites with various groups among the population of Amsterdam. I took part in international projects such as the European Community-founded project on entrepreneurs and migration (2009-2012). Occasionally I teach at Reinwardt academy, the Public History department (University of Amsterdam), History department (Free University) and have given lectures and workshops in the Netherlands and abroad. I was chair of the historical section of the Dutch Museum Association for several years and member of the board of the Resistance Museum Amsterdam. I wrote various books and articles and in recent years a great many blogs on the website of the Amsterdam Museum.
