In 1991, the club introduced a new logo: a simplified head of the Greek Ajax in eleven lines. Fans have been campaigning to restore the traditional logo ever since. In April 2014, they even held a protest march through the centre of Amsterdam to ‘Give Ajax his face back!’
Ajax's image
While it may not be Ajax’s official logo, it is certainly a major symbol for some of the club’s fans: the Jewish Star of David. Rival fans used to call Ajax fans ‘Jews’, and so they adopted the name and turned it round: ‘Ajax Jews, super Jews’. In fact Ajax was never a Jewish club, although it always had plenty of Jewish fans... not that it has anything to do with the Jewish religion.
